Updates: Grant, Scholarship and Fund Raising

We at the Brodeur Foundation are very pleased to announce that 2015 has been an exciting year for us.

For the 2nd consecutive year the foundation awarded a $2000 grant to We the People to help finance the students’ participation at the national competition in Washington, DC, an experience they earned with a first place finish at the state-wide competition. Past recipients of grants at the high school have included Care Packages for US Soldiers supported by the National Honor Society, Pediatric Palliative Care Program at Notre Dame Hospice supported by high school students, ELL Student Program for the purchase of electronic translators, the Peer Mentoring Program, and Blossoming Buddies Anti-bullying initiative.

Also awarded this year at graduation was the 4th Annual Major David Brodeur Memorial Scholarship. The 2015 recipient was Bryanna Bailey. Benjamin Nelson, Rita Bahnan and Cassidy Mackintire were scholarship past recipients.

As always, fund raising is an important part of the success of the foundation. Team KLEPTO applied and was selected as a recognized non-profit for the prestigious Falmouth Road Race in August. 15 runners accepted the challenge of the 7 mile race, as well as the individual fund raising responsibilities associated with participation. Nearly $20,000 was raised in support of the foundation. Erik stated, “The amazing part of Falmouth is that other than the initial outlay for the numbers, all monies raised by Team KLEPTO members is given directly to the foundation to further our goal of supporting Auburn’s students.” The team also ran a fund raiser at the Compass Tavern in Worcester. So much fun was had by the team that an application has been submitted for the 2016 race which asked for an increase in numbers to 20. Selection is by lottery and notification will be sent out by mid-November.

The result of the 2015 successes will mean an exciting 2016 and beyond. The board of directors has voted to extend the grant program to Auburn Middle School. Two students will be selected from an essay contest to have their year-end trip to Washington, DC completely funded. The board is also looking into increasing the size of the scholarship and awarding two annually. The grant program will remain in place and hopefully increase giving with more applications from the high school students.

As you can see…an exciting year and much excitement for the future. Planning for the 5th Annual Klepto 5K Race/Walk on October 18th is in its final stages. It looks certain to be another fun and successful event. Look for more information on the race shortly. Thank you all for your generosity. We look forward to continued relationships with you and hope to get more businesses and individuals involved with the foundation!
