Shady Saints Shin Dig Recap

The Shady Saints, performed for a capacity crowd Saturday night at the Auburn Elks in support of the Major David Brodeur Memorial Foundation. The event included dinner, a silent auction and the performance by the band.

Local resident, Shady Saints band member, and graduate of Auburn High School, along with other members of the The Major David Brodeur Memorial Foundation, organized the event as a night of renewing old friendships, while also supporting a local cause. Many businesses and individuals provided over $3,000 worth of items that were auctioned at the event.

Many of those who attended the event yesterday were former classmates, friends, family as well as members of the Auburn community who wanted to share in perpetuating Broduer’s legacy. The group was able to raise over $5,000 which will be used to directly support student projects at Auburn High School.

Foundation President Tim Morse said, “We are overwhelmed at the constant support our foundation receives from people from all areas who want to continue to honor Dave and support the advancement of educational opportunities in Auburn.” Added, band member and foundation member Jason Kusy, “It’s always great to have some fun while also honoring a friend and supporting the community. The Shady Saints was happy to add to this incredible endeavor.”

2011 Klepto 5K: Brodeur Memorial Foundation Exceeds Fundraising Goal in Our First Event

The streets of Packachoag Hill were filled with hundreds of community members yesterday as the Brodeur Memorial Foundation sponsored its inaugural event, a 5K Run/Walk in honor of Major David Brodeur, an Air Force pilot from town who was killed in the line of duty in April 2011. The race wound through the same neighborhoods that Brodeur grew up in with over 400 participants enjoying the incredible weather and making contributions back to serve the entire community.

The Major David Brodeur Memorial Foundation is a newly formed non-profit organization founded in honor of Major David Brodeur (call sign “Klepto”), a graduate of Auburn High School Class of 1994. The group’s mission is to honor the life of Major David Brodeur by working to provide financial support in the areas of academics, athletics, and extra-curricular activities in the Auburn Public School system. Many of those who attended the event yesterday were former classmates as well as members of the Auburn community who wanted to share in perpetuating Broduer’s legacy.

Auburn High alum and foundation Vice President Shannon Leary stated, “Yesterday exceeded every expectation that I had. From the number of runners, to the dedication of our volunteers, it all came together beautifully. Just to witness how many people loved and cared about him was overwhelming to see.” Added Foundation President Tim Morse, “It has moved me to no end to see what we have accomplished today – to know that we have started the process of building a lasting legacy for Dave is something that is really special.”

Although the entry fees accumulated more than $8000 in donations corporate sponsors including Unibank, Webster Five, Best Buy among many others, grew the fund to over $10,000.

The group is looking to continue having more events in the first quarter of 2012.
